Free Assange Now

By Victoria Lynn Hall

The United States empire is a destructive force in the world. It wages violence to retain its hegemonic hold on this planet to benefit global capital flows. It will destroy anyone who gets in the way of that and that is why it is slowly killing a journalist for exposing its war crimes.

Julian Assange knew the danger he would be in for doing this, not because he did anything wrong, but because he understood the truth about this empire and how it operates. He did it anyway, because in his words:

“If wars can be started by lies, peace can be started by truth.”

Julian Assange

What Assange is experiencing now is literally torture. This is his punishment for doing his job as a journalist and exposing information that was in the public interest because it wasn’t in the interest of the elite forces that rule our world for their own benefit. This is how he is being made an example of for anyone else who may think to seriously challenge those forces.

As his life hangs in the balance, so does any hope for our human race to ever evolve and organize into a fair and just society based on the principles of love and compassion so many of us claim to espouse.

If you say you believe in love, that you want peace, that you are against suffering and for justice and you are not speaking out for Assange now, those are just words and vague dreams that will die when Assange does, behind bars, because too many of us did nothing to save him.
