A Poem by Victoria Lynn Hall

We return to
revisit history
to solve the mystery
to get a clue

to unravel
and untie the knots
of this net where we are caught
hoping for a breakthrough

What we find never was
what we remember
for our eyes have grown
since we were smaller

We see now the paths
where we did not wander
the answers that were not known
and now that we are taller

all the things we couldn't reach for
all the lies that aren't true anymore

And so we go back
returning to when
we needed a friend
and no one appeared

And we meet ourselves
in that troubled past
so before the child can even ask
we can whisper don't worry

I'm here
I'm here
