After the whole world saw video of US Border Patrol agents on horseback whipping Haitian migrants, White House press secretary Jen Psaki called the incident “horrific” on CBS Mornings and went on to say that, “It’s important for people to know this is not who we are. That’s not who the Biden-Harris administration is.”
Anyone who was impressed by this purely rhetorical denouncement of something that actually happened (no one disputes the accuracy of the video) under the watch of the Biden-Harris administration, quite frankly, needs to have their head examined.
Anyone who thinks that saying, “this is not who we are” is taking responsibility when, in fact, it is an abdication of responsibility, is either incredibly gullible or is being willfully ignorant.
Continuing bad policies (many of them Trump era policies, some of which were also Obama era policies), instituting new bad or ineffectual policies, and refusing to wield their power to fight for even the mildest challenges to the status quo; and then offering hollow rhetoric in response to the disastrous results of all this is exactly “who the Biden-Harris administration is.”
It just isn’t who they want us to think they are.
And so they put hearts on the White House lawn and light candles and offer ridiculous slogans like, “Healing the Soul of America” and “Build Back Better”.
That isn’t legislating, that is branding, false advertising and complete bullshit.
Anyone who doesn’t see right through that just doesn’t want to. Unfortunately those migrants being whipped at the border, or the thousands more desperate refugees being deported using one of the Trump administration’s most hated border policies (not to mention countless other people within our country and around the world who are also suffering at the affects of our policies) don’t have that luxury.
