The Circle Dance

A Poem by Victoria Lynn Hall

With our hands joined and our arms held open
the circle was wide
with so much space
for possibility

When we put our hands together
it pulled us in
and we felt the strength
and the warmth
of our gathering

open
closed
out
in

Our movements and our breath
in rhythm
dancing to our
different drum

The fear
the vulnerability
got lost in the beat
in the effort to match
each others steps

We found safety
in the order
in the repetition
and yet from our newfound
certainty
A mystery was being born

When we let go of each other
it was there in each of our minds
the question we never thought to ask before

Who would I be if I always felt like I belonged?
