Assange Activism for Everyone

By Victoria Lynn Hall

I recently spoke with Misty Winston (click here to watch on YouTube) who is, among other things, a fierce advocate for press freedom and an Assange activist. We talked about the politically motivated charges that led to the illegal and arbitrary detention of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange and why this cause is important to everyone as well as what she is doing in support of it and how others can and should get involved.

One thing Misty repeatedly stressed that impressed me is the willingness of the Assange activism community to welcome the efforts of people across the political spectrum. She recognizes, like I do, that the goal of any worthwhile activism project is a better world for everyone. So if we are willing to fight for everyone, why wouldn’t we be willing to fight with them?

The bottom line is that the fight against the destructive forces of corruption now rampant in government, media and business is a fight for all of us and it is going to take all of us to hold those forces at bay. We simply can not do that without a free press and we don’t have that as long as any journalist is persecuted and imprisoned simply for doing their job exceedingly well.

I urge you to set aside just under 28 minutes to watch my conversation with Misty and I’m sure you will understand why she is so passionate about this very important work. Also, please check out the resources below to learn more about the Assange case and how you can get involved and make a difference for Julian Assange and for all of us.
