Show Notes by Victoria Lynn Hall

The time has come to take the bull by the horns
We’ve been so downhearted, we’ve been so forlorn
We get weak and we want to give in
But we still need each other if we want to win

Just One Victory by Todd Rundgren

I referenced the song “Just One Victory” by Todd Rundgren in this episode, which has been on my mind a lot in the past eighteen months or so. It seems I keep searching for, working for, hoping for, praying for that breakthrough victory that will tip the momentum towards positive change only to be disappointed.

Certainly, the current Covid relief bill is beyond disappointing and further illustrates how members of congress prioritize their own interests and those of their corporate donors over the increasing needs of the American people. However, if it somehow results in millions of those people getting a lifeline in the form of a $2000 survival check, I will count it as a small victory, even if it has nothing to do with my own efforts or goals – and yes, even if we have Donald Trump to thank for it.

However, I still hope for more significant change to arise.

Until then I keep reminding myself that when that first big victory finally comes (and I know that it will) I will be able to see how it was aided by what may be perceived as many small failures now. I remind myself that as long as we are learning and growing, we are winning.

I mistakenly referred to the 3 Rs of The New Deal as Relief, Repair and Reform in our discussion, when in fact it was Relief, Recovery and Reform.

To learn more about FDR’s New Deal, Jesse recommends this video:

I mentioned this episode of the Marianne Williamson podcast with economist Stephanie Kelton:

Jesse referred to leaked audio of Biden talking to black leaders. You can learn more about that in this video:

Jesse also mentioned the PRO Act. Learn more in this article from the Economic Policy Institute: The Pro Act: Giving Workers More Bargaining Power
