I left the corporate world more than twenty years ago to get away from men who behave like too many of the men in our political world do today. Men who are so drunk on and grasping of the power given to them by their title or their money that it is obvious they have no true power of their own.
With all due respect to Lord Acton, I don’t believe that absolute power corrupts absolutely, because real power, true power is something everyone already has. However, when we look for it outside ourselves, we are denying its existence within.
If you don’t cultivate your inner power, then no amount of outer power is going to satisfy you. Greed is a sure sign that someone thinks they are not enough and it is a self fulfilling prophecy. Sooner or later these are the type of people who bring about their own ruin and become the shell they always believed themselves to be.
Real power lies in giving, not getting. It comes from knowing that you are so overflowing with inner riches and resources that you can afford to be generous and kind. There is nothing powerful about anyone who takes advantage of their position to be cruel or thoughtless.
Truly powerful men and women seek to awaken, not suppress the power that is in others. They don’t see power as a finite resource where one person having it means another has less.
The power that will change and heal this world will not come from any one person but from all of us combined. It’s time to connect and harness that power.
